Implant Placement
Dental implants are truly special because they actually replace the entire structure of a lost tooth, both the root and the crown (the portion that shows when you smile). No other treatment does this, and it’s why dental implants provide not only extremely secure restorations, but they also help protect the jaw from the bone loss that is so common after tooth loss.
In order to get dental implants, you will first need to undergo a minor surgery where one (or more depending on your needs) is placed into your jaw to create a prosthetic tooth root. After it has been completed, you’ll be given a few months to heal, during which time the implant(s) will bond and become one with your jawbone. Then, you’ll return to our office to receive your new replacement teeth.
Implant-Retained Crowns & Bridges
As pointed out above, dental implants can be used to successfully restore any number of missing teeth. If you are missing a single tooth, we can use an implant-retained crown to bring it back to life. For this, a custom-made all-porcelain crown will be attached directly to the implant using a connector called an abutment. After that, the crown will be virtually indistinguishable from your real teeth. We’ll specially shape and shade it to seamlessly blend with your smile, and you can rely on it to be just as strong and durable as your other teeth as well.
In the case of a few missing teeth in a row, these implant crowns can also be used to support a bridge that is much more secure and natural-looking than a traditional dental bridge. One or two implant crowns will be placed near the space of the missing teeth, and it/they will be attached to prosthetic ones to complete the smile.
Implant-Retained Dentures
Do you have a denture that causes you more trouble than it’s worth? Does it slip and slide around your mouth all the time, making eating and speaking extremely uncomfortable? With dental implants, we can make all of those problems finally go away.
With an implant-retained denture, the prosthetic teeth will be attached to numerous dental implants placed into your jaw as opposed to just sitting on your gum tissue. The result? A set of teeth you can always trust to stay in place. Plus, the fit will last much longer thanks to the implants’ internal support of your jaw, and you’ll also have a much stronger bite force. This will enable you to chew various food traditional denture wearers have to avoid, allowing you to enjoy a more varied, and therefore healthier, diet. In some cases, we can even retrofit the dentures you are currently wearing to fit over a new set of implants.
