Root Canal Treatment

Need a root canal?  We offer root canal treatment in-house for most procedures.

What is a root canal and why are they done?

A root canal (also known as endodontic treatment) is the removal of a tooth’s pulp, the soft tissue in the center of the tooth containing the nerve and blood supply. This procedure is done to save a tooth when the pulp has become compromised. A pulp can become compromised by a cavity extending deep into a tooth, a deep crack in the tooth, or sometimes spontaneous death of the nerve in the tooth. Sometimes these things cause an infection in the tooth, sometimes pain, sometimes both.

A root canal can be performed to save a tooth if enough sound tooth remains that a crown can be placed on the remaining tooth.

Will it hurt?

Root canals are typically painless and performed in one or two appointments depending on your specific situation. The treatment is usually very effective and you’ll be back to smiling in no time!

Worried about the pain or anxious to get the treatment done?

We have options for sedation during your root canal treatment, so you can sleep through the whole thing!

Saving your natural tooth has many advantages:

  • Normal biting force and sensation after treatment
  • Efficient chewing
  • Natural appearance
  • Protects other teeth from excessive wear and stress

Can I return to work or school after a root canal?

The area will likely be numb for several hours following treatment and your doctor will advise against eating in this area for a short period of time. Most patients are able to return to school and work functions directly following treatment.

How do we do it?
