Have you noticed changes in the color or shape of your teeth? Do you have chips, cracks, or breaks that are killing your smile? Or maybe you’ve just never been able to make your smile pop. It’s a fact of life that our teeth will change as we age, or due to decay or trauma. Our Oregon City dental team is here to give you the smile you have always wanted and to restore function and beauty to your mouth.
As a leader in cosmetic dentistry, our office provides porcelain veneers that are durable, lifelike, and match the natural color of your teeth. Veneers are ultra-thin shells of porcelain that are bonded to your tooth. Our veneers can hide distracting discoloration, chips, and cracks. We can even use veneers to close the gap between teeth, alter the shape of the tooth, or restore worn enamel.
At Oregon City Family Dentistry, we place veneers under local anesthesia and only minimally prepare the teeth. To prepare the tooth, we remove a portion of the enamel, about 3mm, to ensure that the veneer will fit your smile naturally. The biggest disadvantage of porcelain veneers is that the tooth cannot be unprepared, so it’s important to make sure the treatment is right for you.
We take accurate impressions of your teeth to find the most appropriate size and shape of the permanent restoration. We also use the mold to create a wax-up of your mouth. Using the wax-up, we can show you how the final restoration will look and fit. Our staff typically places veneers in two quick visits, one to prepare the tooth and the final to place the permanent restoration.
How Veneers Can Help You
While porcelain veneers are aesthetically beautiful, they are about much more than looks! Veneers can actually strengthen your tooth and restore function. Patients who have weak enamel or damaged teeth, or those who have had root canals on their front teeth, can greatly benefit from veneers.
Why? Your enamel is the hardest substance in your body, but even it can break down when exposed to harmful plaque and acids. This is especially troubling when the enamel on your front teeth begins to erode. This creates discoloration of the tooth and weakens the entire structure of the tooth. Of course, when your tooth structure is weakened, you’re at a higher risk of chips or even total breaks. Having veneers placed on damaged teeth will preserve the tooth from future damage and help you avoid that untimely break or dental emergency.
Drs. Annalisa and Kyle Smith will give you a comprehensive evaluation before beginning any treatment. As part of our full-mouth reconstruction, we can offer a mixture of veneers and teeth-whitening treatments or even dental crowns.
We’ve seen veneers transform countless smiles. Patients walk in self-conscious and uncertain about their smile and walk out grinning from ear-to-ear.
